It is, by definition, impossible to prepare for the unexpected.

The above or something close to it  was actually used as an epigraph in a mosaic novel called Thieve's World I think (maybe edited by Lynn Asprin - oh dear I'm going back to the eighties...editors Robert and Lynn somebody...I just can't grasp it)
