Im traveling from brisbane city australia to melbourne city australia it takes 2hours and 20minutes to get to melbourne. I am choosing a morning flight and the flight is: QF611 Qantas.

When i click the word QF611 it pops up a small menu with information.. It says they provide breakfast. And details about Terminal D and so on.

Below the menu it indicates the following:

Meal: Breakfast

Stopover: - (no stop overs)

Total duration: 2h 25m

Aircraft type: Boeing 737-800 - view aircraft/ seat map

It says it is 737-800 plane.

As soon as i click the view aircraft a pop up menu apears with the following:

Boeing 737-838

Seat Map for Configuration:

12 Business; 156 Economy*

So know it indicates its a 737-383

Where it says 12 buxiness 156 economy i click that link and shows map inside the plane and the map indicates its a: 737-800

So what is it? Boeing 737-838 or 737-800 ? its so confusing......

need your help. I must check the interior map.

  1. the '838' model difference shouldn't affect you. It just means it is a B737, but and 800 model, which is the newest version, and that it is 838 extension. Like the B747 has SP- Special Performance.  And a bunch of other stuff.

  2. Boeing 737-800, Boeing B738 and Boeing 737-838 are the same aircraft, which is the Boeing B737-800. The B737-838 means that this certain  aircraft was ordered and purchased by Qantas, as Boeing assigns the 38 code to Qantas. The B738 means that this plane is a  Boeing 737-800. The code B738 is used by

    airlines to determine the aircraft being utilized. If code B734 is used, then this plane is a Boeing B737-400, and so on.

    Airlines sometimes  use the 'B737-838' method to identify specifically what kind of Boeing 737-800 is being used. the seating layout of a B737-838 may be different to the seating layout of a B737-806 (KLM). since most airlines operate different aircraft, it is, therefore, important to include in the flight details the specific kind of aircraft being utilized, for the benefit of the passengers, since most passengers find it important that they know the seating layout of the aircraft.

    bidding you a safe flight.

  3. It is as what the menu says a Boeing 737 series 800. As the B737 is a narrow body seat configuration is 12 business that is 3 2x2 seating AB on the left and EF on the right. As far as economy is concerned its ABC on the left and DEF on the right 3 seats that is why in actual terms 737 family is a narrow body aircraft. if it becomes 4 abreast it is now a wide body.

  4. The aircraft  which you will be flying is a Boeing 737-800 which in short is B738.  Airlines use this system for numbering there aircraft for Identyfying them. So to put it to simple terms, the aircraft you are flying is a B737-800 but in the airline database it is recognised as the B737-838.

  5. because the aircrafts companies have different models and when the manufacture others planes have remodelations and change the second number  of the model but the change  they're small for example: the sit ubications or the baths ubications don't  made confusing is the aircraft model

    i hope that serve you

  6. for the 838 part...

    Its a boeing customer code,

    737 = airplane type

    8xx  = version (800 series)

    x83 = qantas customer code......United is x22, American is x21, southwest is xH4 so they can have letters as well
