Qatar Masters: John Daly just one step behind from becoming leader
It might have not been a very positive start for the Qatar Masters due to constant wind blowing issues but it was certainly the day Gonzalo Fernandez was able to fire three straight birdies to score 6-under-66 on the very first day of the event.
In total, the Spaniard scored nine times under par, along with two bogeys.
Even though, suffering from a hand problem and complications that marginalised him from the golf course for six months, the Spaniard was able to show some positive performance in the game.
He expressed his satisfaction by saying, "It was impossible to see where our ball fell to put in. I tried to play dirty tricks, as possible. I think I got lucky a few putts. Putter is what is most difficult in these wind conditions".
45-year-old John Daly could not occupy the top position in the game, after he was unable to make the one shot required to take the lead.
John Daly hit a home run with a -5 that could offer him the leadership after the first round. However, his dream was shattered by the consecutive birdies that were then fired by Gonzalo.
The American golfer, currently at 67, is then followed by the Korean prominent golfer, KJ Choi, and Jason Day.
Choi and Australian Jason Day each signed four birdies to occupy the third place overall. Just behind these two, it is the Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts who stands at the next spot.
In addition to this, it is also important to mention that British Open Champion of 1999, Paul Lawrie, is also three shots off the pace in the tournament.
The list also comprises defending champion Thomas Bjorn currently standing in the list with his 79 points in the tournament.
Since its recent inception, Qatar Masters has served as an excellent opportunity and platform for golfers to showcase their skills and golfing potentials in the geographical conditions of Middle East.
With the help of this event, golfers are able to acquaint themselves effectively with the diverse environments.
Such tournaments make the players more competitive when it comes to furnishing and sharpening their skills in the game.
