Qatar Team’s Italian driver Alex Carella wins 2011 UIM F1 H2O World Championship
Italy’s Alex Carella put up a superb show in current season to lift the 2011 UIM F1 H2O World Championship title as the Qatar Team driver utilised his skills and experience to claim the title with 84 points after participating in seven events of the year
2011. Carella nudged his team-mate, Jay Price down on second place by a five-point difference.
Carella’s victory over his team-mate in December has earned him his first ever UIM F1 H20 World Championship title in power boating. The 26 year-old Carella from Piacenza, Italy, trailed Price for most of the season but he had a tremendous campaign in the
circuit, which benefitted him in the end. The Italian won clinched two victories over Price in both Kazan, at the Grand Prix of Russia and Abu Dhabi, at the UAE Grand Prix.
Carella grabbed an early lead in the first lap of the final Grand Prix in Sharjah and he cornered his team-mate in emphatic style. The American, Price, was trying hard to keep up with his team-mate and he made a desperate move in the left hand corner in
order to overtake Carella but could not succeed and during this attempt, both drivers slipped out of the race course and could not finish the lap.
Some lower scores and a disqualification in Liuzhou, China, were the major reasons of Price’s fall at second podium place. He would have clinched the title, had he not made any mistakes in the final Grand Prix at Sharjah. Meanwhile, Price has already announced
his resignation from the team, and that too might be because of a lower finish at the 2011 UIM F1 H2O World Championship.
