The latest announcements from Sepp Blatter in FIFA’s voting procedure with regard to the hosts of the 2018 and the 2022 World Cups have revealed that Qatar have won the right to host the 2022 World Cup whereas Russia have been awarded the right to host the
2018 World Cup.
After an extensive voting process, Russia were declared as the hosts for the 2018 World Cup. The Siberian nation fought off competition from the home of football, England as well as other strong contenders in shape of Spain/Portugal and Netherlands and Belgium.
It is currently believed that the favourites England went out in the first round of voting in FIFA’s executive committee.
On the other hand, the hosts of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar are set to become the first Middle East nation to host the World Cup. Qatar gave a very ambitious presentation before the votes were held as they promised state-of-the-art stadiums which will be ready
by 2022 to act as venues for the World Cup. Russia’s win amongst giants such as England, Spain/Portugal and Netherlands/Belgium has lit the footballing world alight at the moment as the Siberian nation is set to host the tournament for the first time in 2018.
Not only that, it is also set to become the first eastern European nation to host the FIFA World Cup.
Qatar and Russia’s bids lacked infrastructural confirmations. However, given that there are at least 10 years to the next World Cup, both the new host nations have a lot of time on their hands to work a way around. Qatar’s win was perhaps the most surprising
of all as their bid was seen as a low key one; however FIFA’s habit to award the World Cup to nations who haven’t hosted it before has turned out to be true once again.
England, Spain/Portugal, Netherlands/Belgium, U.S.A, South Korea/Japan and the rest will be disappointed that they didn’t get the right to host the tournaments that they bid for but it all remains to be seen how Qatar and Russia will live up to their promises
to host exciting World Cup tournaments.
