Qatari Football Association hits out at 2022 World Cup bid bribery allegations
Qatari Football Association (QFA) has hit back at accusations claiming two FIFA executive committee members were bribed to vote for Qatar for the 2022 World Cup bid.
QFA has now released an official statement against the recent allegations. The statement is a response to the recent allegations and was published in a memorandum that was sent to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee in the UK House of Commons.
The statement in the memorandum reads:
"No specific examples of alleged wrong-doing on the part of the Bid Committee, such as a specific payment made to a specific individual, have ever been identified. Advancing allegations against the Bid Committee in such a way is particularly unfair and
in such circumstances, it is very hard for the Bid Committee to refute such vague allegations other than with a generalised denial.”
The statement then says that the Bidding Committee will welcome a thorough investigation into the allegations but the investigations should be carried out by an independent committee that also hears the Qatari side of the story.
"It is wholly inappropriate for any examination of the Bid Committee’s affairs to be based on unsubstantiated hearsay and inaccurate journalism," concluded the statement.
Furthermore, the QFA also spoke about an unidentified ‘whistleblower’ in the memorandum who initiated the whole scandal and pointed out the fact that the case is only the doing of someone who holds a grudge against the FIFA bidding committee.
"The Memorandum refers to an alleged unidentified 'whistleblower' that it is said formerly worked for the Bid Committee. It is true that one or two people retained by the Bid Committee have left on acrimonious terms. The only explanation apparent to us is
that one such person, plainly with a significant axe to grind against the Bid Committee, is the alleged whistleblower in question."
Ever since Qatar won the hosting rights of the 2022 World Cup, accusations have been made at the Middle Eastern country with many suggesting that the committee was bribed into making http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
