Qi Bin Zhang accomplishes Men’s 100m butterfly title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Qi Bin Zhang of China accomplished gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on second day of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The Chinese swimmer went full rampant in the 100m discipline and spoiled the party of his opponents by occupying gold medal.
Zhang smothered hopes of his opponents in the four-lap race as he proved his eligibility for the title.
With his unmatchable efforts, Zhang stayed only a touch ahead of his following swimmer and pocketed gold medal of the event by producing a time of 50.58 seconds.
Zhang was chased by Kenneth To of Australia, who was only 0.18 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the race by producing a time of 50.76 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Kazuya Kaneda of Japan, who was 0.09 seconds slower from his former finisher and reached the victory stand for bronze medal with an effort of 50.85 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Jason Edward Dunford of Kenya, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end with an effort of 51.03 seconds.
Dunford was traced by Christopher Wright of Australia, who stayed 1.44 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 52.47 seconds for fifth place.
Similarly, Wright was traced by Viacheslav Prudnikov of Russia, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and ended his race in sixth place by submitting a time of 52.53 seconds.
Prudnikov was traced by Ryan Steenkamp of Australia, who was 1.05 seconds slower from overwhelming his preceding swimmer and concluded his swim in a time of 53.58 seconds.
Steenkamp was trailed by Ben Lindsay of Australia, who remained 0.19 seconds away from overpowering his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 53.77 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Zhang expressed contentment over his victory in the 100m discipline and stressed that he would train harder in future to accomplish the same at the forthcoming 2012 World Short Course Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, this December.
