Qiang Wang outlasts Ye-Ra Lee to enter title-round – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Chinese star, Qiang Wang, rallied past the South Korean contender, Ye-Ra Lee, in a three-set epic at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Friday.
Seeded top in this event, Wang lost her track in the second set. However, she re-focused in the deciding set and eventually formulated a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 score line against the 25-year-old. After recording the victory in almost two and a half hour, Wang comfortably
secured a place in the final round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
The seeded Chinese made quick in-roads at the Rama Garden Sport Complex. After Lee held her serve in the fifth game, Wang unleashed her true colours and went on a four-game rampage. She smoothly held her entire serves without facing any trouble and cashed
both break chances to register a 6-3 score line.
Lee re-structured in the following set at this outdoor hard court event. She drew the first blood in the second game and cruised to a 3-0 lead. After the Chinese came on the score board in the fourth game, Lee stroke out the last three games and clinched
the equaliser with a breadstick. She was never challenged with any breakpoint and converted two out of three break chances to her advantage.
Ranked 196th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wang found his early momentum in the final set. After Lee held her serve in the third game, the Chinese went berserk and wiped out the last five games. She brushed off all
three breakpoints she came across and availed both break opportunities to achieve her goal.
The 20-year-old is moving a step closer towards her third ITF title this season. She previously claimed crown at the Beijing ITF event (stunned second seed Yung-Jan Chan) and the Sanya ITF event (dumped her wild card compatriot Xinyun Han).
Up next for Wang is the second seed, Xin Wen, who also required three sets to overpower her rival, Shiho Akita, to set up this meeting. Wen nudged up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 score line against the seventh seeded Japanese.
