Qiang Wang slays Linda Mair to enter round two – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Top seed, Qiang Wang from China, devastated the Italian challenger, Linda Mair, with a bagel at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
on Monday. She notched up a 6-0, 6-4 victory against the Italian to power into the second round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
The seeded Chinese showed brilliant skills to outshine Mair in their first encounter. After recording the victory in around 50 minutes, Wang comfortably secured a place in the round of 16 at this outdoor hard court tournament taking place from 3rd
to 9th December.
Wang high-spiritedly entered the Rama Garden Sports Complex. She unveiled her true colours after stepping on the Thai courts and reeled off six games in a row. The Chinese was never challenged with any hindrance and cashed half of the six break chances to
pocket the opener with a bagel.
Ranked 196th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wang maintained his intensity in the following set. The Chinese swiped her serves until she got the breakthrough in the last game, eventually sealing the set by winning six
games to four. She brushed off both breakpoints she came across and converted one out of three break chances to her advantage.
After securing this victory, Wang snapped out from her seven-match losing streak. However, she managed to capture two titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit this season. The Chinese started her season in high spirits and cruised to the quarter-finals at the Quanzhou
ITF event (lost to fourth seed Caroline Garcia). She maintained her intensity and reached final eight at Pingguo ITF event (lost to Yijing Zhao).
Wang failed to qualify for main draw at the WTA events but moved up a gear at the Sanya ITF event. She went berserk and without losing a set, the Chinese grabbed the title. Wang reached far in the following ITF events before capturing her second title at
the Beijing ITF.
Up next for the seed is local challenger, Kamonwan Buayam, who made an epic comeback from a set down to triumph over South Korea’s Na Ri Kim. She found her rhythm in the second set and eventually sealed the deal with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 score line.
