Qin Kai and Luo Yutong occupy Men’s Synchronised 3m Springboard gold - FINA Diving World Cup
Qin Kai and Luo Yutong of China occupied gold medal of the Men’s Synchronised 3m Springboard Diving on initial day of the 18th Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) Visa Diving World Cup 2012 at the Olympic Aquatics Centre, London on Monday,
February 20.
The FINA World Cup is a seven-day competition that provides a chance to elite divers to compete with each other in their events before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Kai and Yutong, who won gold medal of the same at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, met expectations of their fans by defending their international title.
The 26-year-old Kai, who occupied gold medal of the similar event and secured a bronze finish in the 3m Springboard individual event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, played a vital role in seizing gold medal of the event.
The Chinese duo qualified into the final round as hot favourite for gold medal. With their promising efforts in the final round, they smothered all struggles of their challengers and reached the podium for gold medal.
Kai and Yutong remained slightly above their qualifying mark but cemented their place on the medal rostrum for the crown of the event. They experienced strong battle from Russia’s Evgeny Kuznetsov and Illya Zakharov, but succeeded in proving their supremacy
by a margin of almost six points.
The Chinese pair clinched 445.71 points and accomplished gold medal of the event. They were trailed by Russian pair, which reached the final as eighth best qualifying team, but elevated their efforts in the playoff and settled on the podium for silver medal
by achieving a score of 439.83 points.
The arena saw another upsetting performance from Malaysia’s Lomas Bryan Nickson and Qiang Huang, who stayed nearly seven points behind second position holders and stepped on the victory stand for third position by scoring 432.09 points.
Kai and Yutong were overjoyed with their feat in the synchronised discipline and articulated their desire of defending their title at the upcoming biggest stage of sports.
Furthermore, the diving championship will end on February 26 after the completion of all events in Men and Women’s corner.
