Qin Kai impresses in Men's 3m Springboard qualifying rounds: Day six - World Diving Championships
Qin Kai of China won the top qualification spot of the Men’s 3m Springboard diving category on day six of the ongoing 14th FINA World Long Course Championships in Shanghai, China, on Thursday, July 21.
Kai impressed the arena with his phenomenal effort in the Men’s diving event, by accomplishing a notable score of 504.75 points for the finest qualification spot. The Chinese diver is now one-step closer to contribute another gold medal for his country,
as he is the favourite contender to clinch the title in the respective meet. China has already captured six gold medals in the diving events of these world titles.
Kai was followed by his team-member and strongest competitor, He Chong, who stayed 4.35 points behind Kai and qualified into the semi-finals with the second highest scorer with 500.40 points. Chong’s score was almost fifteen points higher than Ilya Zakharov
of Russia, who entered into the semi-finals with the third highest score of 485.15 points.
The Russian was followed by Yahel Castillo of Mexico, who was 29.55 points behind Zakharov and proved his eligibility for the fourth best spot of the discipline, with a total score of 455.60 points. Ken Terauchi of Japan clinched the fifth best qualification
spot of the 3m event, as he was almost eleven points behind his preceding diver and was able to compile a score of 444.75 points.
Terauchi was followed by Evgeny Kuznetsov of Russia, who stayed 2.25 points behind the Japanese diver and entered the final with a sixth finest score of 442.50 points. Sho Sakai of Japan was ranked seventh on the overall points table, as he achieved a score
of 438.15 points. The eighth qualification spot was secured by Julian Sanchez of Mexico, who managed to sum a score of 438.15 points.
In addition, the arena appreciated the gruelling efforts of all divers, whereas, these athletes will be provided with a chance to compete with each other in the semi-final of the same event.
