Qing Xu pockets Men’s 50m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Qing Xu of China pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly in S6 category on day nine of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
The Chinese swimmer spoiled the party of his opponents in the single lap butterfly discipline as he sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for the title.
With his unrelenting efforts, Xu remained just a stroke ahead of his following swimmer and emerged on the finishing end as top fastest swimmer by reporting a nice time of 29.90 seconds.
His title claiming effort remained 0.37 seconds ahead of his compatriot, Tao Zheng, who occupied silver medal of the event by submitting a time of 30.27 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Kyosuke Oyama of Japan, who stayed one body length away from his former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 31.43 seconds.
Oyama was followed by Fangyu Luo of China, who stayed considerably slower and failed to reach the medal rostrum. Luo remained 0.83 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher by clocking a time of 32.26 seconds.
Luo was chased by Nelson Crispin of Colombia, who stayed nearly half body length slower from his former finisher and ended his race in fifth best place by touching the wall with a timing of 32.71 seconds.
Crispin was chased by Iaroslav Semenenko of Ukraine, who suffered a loss of nearly 0.70 seconds from his foregoing finisher and proved his eligibility for sixth position by producing a time of 33.47 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was trailed by Aaron Rhind of Australia, who was almost half body length behind and earned seventh position of the race by producing time of 34.03 seconds.
Subsequently, Sascha Kindred of Great Britain was disqualified from the playoff due to a false start and failed to prove his mettle for any spot on the podium.
In addition, Xu was overjoyed with his accomplishment in the single lap discipline and articulated his desire of achieving the same at upcoming swimming events.
