Qing Xu wins Men’s 200m IM gold medal – 2012 Paralympic Games
Qing Xu of China won gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in SM6 category on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Xu devastated hopes of his opponents in the four-lap IM discipline as he stayed comfortably ahead of his opponents throughout the race and made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his continuous efforts, Xu enjoyed a three-body length lead over his toughest competitor and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 38.62 seconds.
His gold winning effort was followed by Sascha Kindred of Great Britain, who was 2.88 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 41.50 seconds.
Kindred was followed by Tao Zheng of China, who suffered a loss of nearly three seconds from his former finisher and finished third in the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 44.38 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Iaroslav Semenenko of Ukraine, who was four body lengths away from his foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 2 minutes and 48.11 seconds.
Subsequently, Semenenko was traced by Matthew Whorwood of Great Britain, who stayed considerably slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall for fifth position with an effort of 2 minutes and 53.08 seconds.
Whorwood was trailed by Nelson Crispin of Colombia, who stayed two and a half body length behind and ended his race in sixth best place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 55.52 seconds.
Seventh best spot of the event was obtained by Matthew Haanappel of Australia, who was only 0.08 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 55.60 seconds.
Last position was obtained by Swen Michaelis of Germany, who hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 58.50 seconds.
Furthermore, Xu expressed happiness over his accomplishment after the session.
