  1. A question will generally tell you whether a product or reactant is a solution. Just because water is in the equation it does not mean that the other reactant(s) are not solid. For example, Solid Sodium Chloride can be added to water to yield Na+ and Cl- ions.

    Hope that helps?

  2. a chemical equation represents a reaction which happens in reality.physical state of the reactants and products depends on conditions of reaction. For example when hydrogen is burnt, water produced is in gaseous state.so we write 'g' as subscript for H2O.In the same way AgCl is produced from the solutions of NaCl  and AgNO3 as a precipitate so we write 'ppt' for it.an other example may be escape of CO2               from a solution of reactants but we write 'g' for it.The conclusion may be that it is determined purely by actual conditions and not by theory.I HOPE U WILL UNDERSTAND.
