Qoubilai to stamp the Betfair Brings You Better Value Novices’ Chase at Haydock on 7th April
The Class 3 Betfair Brings You Better Value Novices’ Chase is to get staged at Haydock over two miles on Saturday, 7th April. Taking up the challenge is a lineup of eleven five-year and older thoroughbreds.
From among the highly versatile lineup, Qoubilai, Passing Sale’s eight-year-old bay gelding out if mare Varcady, has claimed the most recent start that he undertook.
Under training Tim Vaughan, the eight-year-old has raced twice during the new season and has captured one while resting the other as a second score.
He cracked into the new season in the Whistle And Flute Tribute Night Handicap Chase on 11th March at Market Rasen over two miles and two furlongs. The race was won by the 11/10 favourite of the race, North Stack, who was paired up with Jason
Maguire. Qoubilai did not let the winner take the race very easily as he was pursuing closely by a mere head’s margin.
Concluding the race third was Zazamix on the field that was set for five to race.
His second start of the season culminated into a victory on 30th March in the Support Brain Tumour Research “Wear A Hat” Handicap Chase at Wetherby over two miles.
This time around, Qoubilai did not let go off the chance and led the runner up of the race, Border Reiver, by a good fourteen lengths. The 5/6 winner of the race was coupled with Richard Johnson.
Settling into the third slot was Ouest Éclair.
Winning the second start of the season and that too by getting entered as the favourite, was quite an accomplishment for the eight-year-old.
Another entry that has won during the new season is Tiger O’Toole, King’s Theatre’s seven-year-old grey gelding out of mare Memsahib Ofesteem. He too has ventured out only twice ever since the season took off.
His seasonal debut was in the Horse Weigh Novices’ Chase on 1st March at Ludlow over two miles and four furlongs. Tiger O’Toole was the 2/1 favourite winner with Paul Moloney onboard. Then he finished third in the Sam’s Bars Handicap Chase on
21st March at Haydock.
Winning the debut and losing the very next race is reason enough for Tiger O’Toole to dominate the race today and threaten the victory of Qoubilai.
