  1. There are many different recipes you can use, mine is a lard, olive oil and coca butter base.

Check out the library for a book called The Complete Soapmaker book and on page 39 you will find my recipe I use, only I use just straight lard and no tallow.

This book will give you step by step instructions, there is a recipie in it for shampoo soap, I love it and so do many of my friends.

If you have a dog, there is a flea and tick shampoo you can make for your dog too.

All of this is in The Complete Soapmaker Book by Norma Coney.

  2. You'll have to go buy "glycerin."  You can get it at the craft store, or even Wal-Mart.  You'll also need molds.

You melt it in the microwave, then put whatever smells, colors, decor, etc... into it that you'd like!

You pour it into the molds and let it cool.  Wa la!  Soap!

  3. Soap is made by combining fats and oils with a lye solution. The lye solution consists of a liquid, usually distilled water and sodium hydroxide. Most fats can be used in soapmaking, however, some are much better than others. Coconut oil provides great cleansing abilities and adds a wonderful fluffy lather. Olive oil is very moisturising and gives a creamy lather.

Here is a link for more information on the soap making process, the ingredients involved and recipes to use.

  4. I think the first soaps were made from animal fat and ashes. Not sure what else though.

These days it is all synthetic.

  5. err, idk but you can go to the toy store and they usually have some soap making kits available with instructions.
