Quacity earns vote in Freebets.com Handicap Chase at Newcastle
On last month’s comeback, Quacity faded out, but ran well enough to suggest that he could go much closer in Freebets.com Handicap Chase, being hosted by Newcastle on Friday, November 16, 2012.
The connections decided to give Quacity the seasonal rest after he pulled up at Hexham in April. With plenty of expectations, the 8-year-old returned to action in the Dowson Blades 25th Anniversary Celebration Handicap Chase.
In the hands of Peter Buchanan, the 5-1 chance got off to a great start. After tracking the leaders well, he went second before 12th. Pumping up his speed significantly, the John R. Adam-owned established his supremacy well before the wire.
He was in a great position to capture an easy triumph, but suddenly lost momentum. On Carlisle’s heavy surface, he got weakened in the final stages, and unfortunately his pace went down dramatically. As a result, he could only seize the fourth place.
If we ignore his effort in final moments of the race, Quacity did a decent job. Bred by Paul-Anthony Barthelemy, the son of Sagacity just needs to stay consistent throughout in order to take a shock win over the principals.
He is facing no easy task on good to soft three miles. Including Quacity, eight horses have made it to the final line-up. The clash is for a prize of £3,444, and it will get started at 15:10 GMT.
Bally Gunner is also one of the major players. Roger Curtis’ charge improved in a winning fashion at Plumpton, and makes good appeal despite a penalty. Harris Hawk should also be competitive, as he has won twice here.
Definite Appeal was super consistent last season, and looks tuned up after a break. Be My Deputy was runner-up over C&D last month, but did not complete latest. Too Cool To Fool is showing up for the first time since two hurdle wins in January 2011.
Bob Will, on the other hand, is making good appeal. Chris Grant’s trainee returned to form with an easy C&D victory, and would be a dangerous fellow despite a 9lb rise. Chernik looked badly out of form in the recent starts. Good luck to all the horses.
