Question:

Quad princess cut engagement ring.?

My boyfriend and I have decided to tie the knot (so i guess that would make him my fiance now lol) we are picking out a ring together and we found a ring that we like but I decided to come on here to see if anyone has had any experience wit them. The ring in question is called a 'quad etting'. Basically it is 4 princess cut diamonds for a center stone to make the ring look like one big huge honkin' rock and then there is side stones on both sides and whatnot. My question is how secure are the diamonds. I spoke to one jeweller about these rings. He said he didn't carry them because the quad setting is not a secure setting and 20% of people lose a diamond or two withing two years. And of course the only store in the city that has the quad setting is telling us that it is as secure as a solitare or any other ring......of course that's because they would like the 4 grand....... not gonna sell if you tell them you run the risk of losing diamonds right? lol. The store where we are looking at this quad setting does have a program tht if you bring your ring in a certain number of times (can't remember if it is every 6 months or once a year) you are not responsible for any diamond loss provided that you are coming in for them to do the cehecks on your settings. So in the long run I guess we would like to hear from anyone who has a quad princess cut engagement ring setting..... your likes, dislikes, etc..... Thanks!!!!

  1. i got one... i LOVE it...its soo pretty...and it can look like a bigger diamond if placed together nicely... they are usally cheaper because the bigger the diamond is the more its worth... so 4 smaller ones put together makes it look like a big one... and i think they are prettier because they reflect more light... the dislike is when someone says " ooo its four small dimonds... i thought it was one big one"

they make it sound like a big diamond is prettier or worth more to you.... but o well...

now.. i had my fiance purchase a cz solitar for me to wear everyday.. the reasoning for this is because. im  pretty rough and im scared that ill knock a diamond out...

if you get insurance on the ring... you will be fine. chose wat you like

EDIT: i failed to mention that the diamons are very secure... or in my exsperiance.

  2. They're pretty. My friend has one for her engagement ring. They are 'invisibly' set, meaning they're held in by each other and then four prongs on the outside....THAT is why they're lost easily. If you bump (pretty hard) it wrong you can loosen them and yes, you will most likely lose one (or more...because after one falls out you have a much greater chance of the others falling out). They are normally less expensive because they're smaller diamonds instead of one big one. Honestly, I wouldn't spend 4k on an invisibly set main 'stone'. That's too much and you can find better/prettier rings that are solitaires.  I have a ring that's just two rows of invisibly set diamonds that I bought when I worked in jewelry for my ring hand ring...and yes I've lost a diamond. I did have the insurance plan so they replaced it with not charge to me. BUT I'm always worried about it. Better safe then sorry, I just truly wouldn't buy it for an engagement ring. And keep looking around, don't buy the ring from ONE store in your town...I mean..it's that a sign to you that they're not the best rings to own?
