Quade Cooper becomes 2011 Super Rugby leading point scorer
Brisbane based Australian Super Rugby franchise Queensland Reds fly half, Quade Cooper, has become the 2011 Super Rugby competition’s top scorer. Cooper’s achievement came in their 2011 Super Rugby semi-final encounter against the Blues at the Suncorp Stadium
on Saturday, July 2.
Reds defeated Blues 30 – 13 to book a seat in the finals of the Super XV competition. Reds will play the winners of the Crusaders vs. Stormers encounter, which will be played in Cape Town on Saturday, July 2.
Cooper scored ten points in the must win game for the Reds to secure their place in the finals of the tournament. At the start of the game, Cooper was trailing by six points to Morne Steyn. Steyn enjoyed the top position for the last few weeks with his 216
points from the season.
The 2011 Super Rugby final’s appearance will be the Reds first in 16 years. Reds last played a super rugby final in 1995 which they won 30 – 16 by defeating the Lions .
Cooper’s ten points in Saturday’s match included a drop goal, a penalty goal and two conversions. Cooper’s first point of the match came in the 12th minute of Saturday’s game after he successfully scored on the conversion following Reds’ winger
Rod Davies try. Cooper then successfully kicked a penalty just before the end of the first-half.
In the second-half, Cooper’s 58th minute conversion following Davies’ try has made him the tournament’s top scorer, taking over Steyn’s 216 points tally.
Cooper scored a drop goal in the 74th minute of the game, which were his last points of the match. Wallabies star fly half Cooper has played an important role all season to ensure his team’s place in the 2011 Super Rugby’s final.
Cooper is now leading the 2011 super rugby points table with 220 points, which includes five tries, thirty conversions, forty one penalties and four drop goals.
