Quade Cooper downplays criticism about his current performance - Rugby News
Wallabies’ Quade Cooper, who is under-fire for his poor show in the ongoing Rugby Wold Cup 2011, has tuned out the exaggerated criticism from various circles and has said that it means nothing to him. Cooper talked to the media on October 12 and said that
he has got enough support from his team-mates which will help him in the forthcoming match against All Blacks. The fly-half declared Wallabies as the favourites since the hosts All Blacks will be under immense pressure before their home crowd.
The 23-year-old fly-half is having a tough time in the field and has not shown his real brilliance in the so for played matches. The kicking specialist was highly praised before the start of global show and was expected to boost his side with his unique
playing style. However, the young man has failed to handle the pressure of world showpiece and revealed his nervousness while playing against the Irish side.
He missed quite a few chances at penalty goals and ultimately Wallabies received an upset victory at the hands of Ireland by 15-6 on September 17. Furthermore, he continued with his unimpressive run in the event in the knockout encounter against Springboks
as well but luckily they carried the day with slight difference of 11-9 on last Sunday.
Commenting on his uneven performance, Cooper said that, “Coming from a guy like that. I tend to take the advice from my team-mates and my coaching staff that I have around me rather than outside influences. Cheers for the advice Campo but I've got a lot
of guys around me here for support.”
He further added that Wallabies have got a psychological edge over All Blacks. He argued that, “They're supposed to have won this World Cup the past three tournaments and this time is no different. The pressure is on them to win this competition on their
home soil, so I'm sure they will be worrying about how they go about their game more so than about myself.”
Wallabies will take on All Blacks on October 16 in Eden Park in the second semi-final of RWC 2011.
