Quade Cooper to stay with Queensland Reds until the end of 2012 - Rugby update
Quade Cooper has shown his willingness to re-sign with Australian Rugby Union for another year which will keep him committed to Queensland Reds until the end of 2012. Cooper is expected to make the announcement of his new deal on Thursday, May 19th. Australian
Rugby Union is hopeful they can retain his services beyond the forthcoming Rugby World Cup.
Cooper was supposed to sign a two-year deal with the Reds during the last season of Super Rugby but he reduced it to a single year after he was attracted by NRL. 23-year-old Cooper started his Super Rugby career in 2007 with the Queensland Reds and has been
playing for them since then.
He has participated in 60 matches for the Reds and has scored 208 points for his side. He has also played 24 tests for his national team Australia and is famous for being the second best player at the 10 position after Dan Carter of the All Blacks. He has
also emerged among the top three players from Australia including Will Genia and David Pocock.
Cooper is reported to have made the decision after consulting with James O’Connor, the skipper of Western Force. Western Force’s stand-in-captain is also likely to make a decision about his future in the coming few weeks.
Cooper told the media that he had asked O’Connor to join Queensland Reds but he will support the Western Force skipper in whatever decision he takes. He further said, “I've had a few chats to him about it but I'm not going to try and sway him to the Reds.
I don't want to put too much pressure on him. When I was going through the same decision there was always a lot of people who gave their opinion and sometimes it becomes a bit too much."
Queensland coach, Ewen McKenzie, is happy to know about the latest progress in Cooper’s future. He said that Cooper would further enhance the performance of his team. The Queensland Reds are toping tables in the current Super Rugby championship with ten
victories after twelve outings.
