3) r^2 + 10r + 9 = 0

4) x^2 = 16

3. r^2 + 10r + 9 = 0

answer: (r+1)(r+9)

4. x^2 = 16

square root of 16, x= 4

3.  r^2 +10r +9 = 0

Factor.

(r+9)(r+1) = 0

Set each factor equal to zeor.

r+9 = 0 or r+1 = 0

r = -9 or r = -1

4.  x^2 = 16

Take the square root of both sides.

x = -4 or x = 4
