  1. 4x^2 - 6x - 2 = 0

    x = [-b +/- sqrt(b^2-4ac)]/(2a)

    a = 4

    b = -6

    c - -2

    x = [6 +/- sqrt((-6)^2-4(4)(-2))]/(2(4))

    x = [6 +/- sqrt(36+32)]/8

    x = [6 +/- sqrt(68)]/8

    x = [6 +/- sqrt(4*17)]/8

    x = [6 +/- 2sqrt(17)]/8

    x = 3/4 + sqrt(17)/4 and x = 3/4 - sqrt(17)/4

  2. subtract 4x^2 on both sides: -4x^2+6x+2=0

    plug in the numbers in the formula a= -4 b= 6 c= 2

    x= -6 + or - the square root of 6^2 - 4(-4)(2)

       ----------------------------------------...

                          2(-4)

    = -6 + or - the square root of  36+32

       ----------------------------------------...

                       -8

    = -6 +/-  the square root of 68

       ---------------------------------------

                      -8

    = -6 +/- the sq root of 4 x 17

       ---------------------------------------

                       -8

    = - 6 +/- 2 square root of 17

       ----------------------------------------

                       -8

    = -3 +/- the square root of 17

      ----------------------------------------...

                       -4

    i got this because 2 goes into -6, 2, and -8

    this is your answer but if you want it simplified one more time:

    -3 + square root of 17              -3 - sq root of 17

    --------------------------------   ,     ----------------------------------

               -4                                         -4

    hope this helps

  3. quad. formula - x = -b +/- √(b^2 - 4ac) / 2a

    step 1: Subtract 4x^2 on both sides (4x^2 - 4x^2 = -4x^2 + 6x + 2,

    -4x^2 + 6x + 2 = 0)

    Step 2: -4x^2 = a; 6x = b; 2 = c

    Step 3: Plug it in - -6x +/- √ [ -6^2 - 4(-4)(2) ] / 2(-4)

    Step 4: Simplify parentheses -6^2 - 4(-4)(2) = 36 + 32 = 68

    Step 5: Find square root of 68 (4 x 17 = 68 and has a perfect square, 4, so you get √4√17, or just 2√17.)

    Step 6: Simplify bottom: 2(4) = 8

    Step 7: Now you have -6x +/- 2√17 / 8

    Step 8: Simplify fraction by dividing both sides by 2

    -6/ 2 = -3;  -2√17/ 2 = -1√17; 8/2 = 4

    Your final answer is x= -3 +/-  -1√17 / 4

  4. 4x^2 = 6x +2

    4x^2 -6x -2 = 0

    x = [6 +/- sqrt(6^2 -4(4)(-2)]/(2*4)

    x = [6 +/- sqrt(36+32)]/8

    x = [6 +/- 2sqrt(17)]/8

    x = .75 +/- .25sqrt(7)

    x = .75 + .25sqrt(17), and

    x = .75 - .25sqrt(17)

  5. 4(x^2) - 6x - 2 = 0

    2(x^2) - 3x -1 = 0

    quadratic formula, a=2, b=-3, c=-1

    x = (3 +- sqrt(17)/4

  6. 4x² = 6x + 2

    4x² - 6x - 2 = 0

    a = 4, b = -6, c = -2

    x1 = [-b+ (b² - 4ac)^½]/(2a)

    x1 = [6 + (36 - -32)^½]/(8)

    x1 = (6 + 68^½) / 8

    x2  = [-b - (b² - 4ac)^½]/(2a)

    x2 = (6 - 68^½) / 8
