Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Sohail Khan demolishes Lahore Shalimar
Karachi and Lahore have always been traditional rivals in the domestic cricket of Pakistan and both the cities have a great history in producing players of international calibre for Pakistan.
Both Karachi and Lahore are represented by 2 teams each in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy because of the high number of players, who play in these 2 cities. However, both the cities are deprived of their best players this year as they are playing for their respective
departments. But this gives the younger talent an opportunity to showcase their abilities at the first class level.
In the 6th round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11, Karachi Whites was up against Lahore Shalimar. Both these teams are the stronger teams of their respective cities as compared to Karachi Blues and Lahore Ravi. Karachi Whites proved to be a stronger
opponent for Lahore Shalimar as Karachi Whites won the match comprehensively with a margin of 288 runs.
Captain of Lahore Shalimar, Kashif Mahmood won the toss at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium, Karachi and invited Karachi Whites to bat first. Karachi Whites were bowled out for 261 runs in the 70th over of day 1. Ramiz Aziz and Asif Zakir scored
half-centuries for Karachi Whites and the captain Shahzaib Hassan scored 42 off only 58 balls with 5 boundaries.
Fast bowler, Emad Ali took a 5 wicket haul for Lahore Shalimar, whereas, Aamer Hayat picked up 3 wickets with Saad Nasim and Arsalan Mir also chipping in with a wicket each.
In reply, Lahore Shalimar came up with a disappointing performance as they were bowled out for a mere 139 in only 45.1 overs. Asif Khan remained the top-scorer with 45 in which he struck 8 fours. Apart from him, no other batsman was able to cope with the
bowling of Karachi Whites. Lahore Shalimar had high hopes on the former captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Muhammad Yousaf but he failed to open his account as he was struck in front of the wickets by the medium-pacer, Ali Mudassar.
Left arm spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azam-Hussain-c46875 and Atif Maqbool picked up 3 wickets each, whereas, Sohail Khan and Ali Mudassar contributed with a couple of wickets each.
In its 2nd innings, Karachi Whites played brilliantly as a team and piled up a huge score on the board. Karachi Whites declared its innings at 330 for the loss of only 4 wickets. The Star of the show for Karachi Whites was Asif Zakir, who made
a fantastic 150 and remained unbeaten. His innings included 13 boundaries. Ramiz Aziz and Abdul Jabbar also scored half-centuries.
Medium-pacer, Ali Haider picked up 3 wickets for Lahore Shalimar with Arsalan Mir picking up a solitary wicket.
In the last innings, Lahore Shalimar could not come up with a better performance with the bat as they failed to reach 200 for the second time in the match. Lahore Shalimar was bowled out for 164 runs and was completely destroyed by the Test fast bowler,
Sohail Khan, who picked up 6 wickets for only 58 runs in 21 overs.
Ali Haider was the top-scorer for Lahore Shalimar with 46 runs. It is quite a shame that none of the Lahore Shalimar batsmen were able to score a half-century in the match. Muhammad Yousaf, who has been ignored by the national selectors for the tour of New
Zealand, grabbed a pair in this match as he failed to disturb the scorers in both the innings.
Although, Sohail Khan was the man who really made inroads in the batting line-up of Lahore Shalimar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Atif-Maqbool-c46639 also picked up 3 wickets for Karachi Whites in the 2nd innings. Overall, it was a disappointing match for Lahore Shalimar, who was
expected to give a better fight to the home team.
