Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 Division One: Kamran Akmal takes NBP to victory in 10th round
In a 10th round fixture of the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 Division One, National Bank of Pakistan defeated Habib Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by 7 wickets in a low scoring encounter. This is HBL’s second consecutive defeat but still it is at the top of the
points table in division one with 57 points. On the other hand, NBP would be quite disappointed with its efforts in the current season as it is reeling at number 6 with just 45 points.
At the Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Kamran Akmal won the toss for NBP and invited HBL to bat first in bowling friendly conditions. It turned out to be a fantastic decision as the strong batting line-up of HBL was swept aside by the NBP fast bowlers for only
116 runs in just 30.1 overs. It was quite a disappointing performance from a batting line-up which posses a lot of Test cricketers. Captain Hassan Raza remained the top scorer with 24 runs off 30 balls. He was looking good before edging a Mohammad Talha delivery
right in the hands of Kamran Akmal. Raza struck 4 boundaries in his cameo. Humayun Farhat also scored 15 runs off only 11 balls with 3 boundaries.
Right arm seam bowler from Karachi, Uzair ul Haq took 4 wickets for NBP after giving away only 33 runs. Wasim Khan and Mohammad Talha picked up 3 wickets each.
In reply, NBP was also dismissed for a mediocre score of 190 runs but taking the match situation into consideration, it was a winning total. Test cricketer Qaiser Abbas remained the top scorer for NBP with a quick-fire 43 off just 35 balls in which he struck
9 fours. Nasir Jamshed, Umar Amin and Rashid Riaz were also off to good starts but failed to capitalize. As a result, NBP took a 1st innings lead of 74 runs over HBL.
Experienced fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sajid-c87977 Shah picked up a 5-wicket haul for HBL whereas Sarmad Anwar took 4 crucial wickets.
In its 2nd innings, HBL was in trouble once again but a 9th wicket partnership of 102 runs between Imran Farhat and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 made sure that HBL is able to put up a fight in the match. Imran Farhat scored a brilliant hundred as
he scored 101 runs off only 108 balls which included 17 boundaries. On the other hand, Danish Kaneria scored crucial 48 runs off just 70 balls. The performance of the rest of the batsmen remains a concern for the HBL management.
Wasim Khan, Mohammad Talha, Mohammad Imran and Hammad Azam picked up a couple of wickets each. However, the star of the 1st innings, Uzair ul Haq only managed to pick up 1 victim second time round.
In the last innings of the match, NBP required 153 runs to win and at one stage it was in trouble with 3 wickets down for only 45 runs on the board. But Kamran Akmal and Naumanullah rescued NBP’s position from there onwards and scored 108 runs in their unbeaten
partnership. Kamran was the more flamboyant of the two as he scored 70 runs not out off just 62 balls in which he struck 13 fours and a six. On the other hand, Naumanullah scored 41 off 76 balls with the help of 6 boundaries and remained unbeaten.
Sarmad Anwar picked up 2 wickets for HBL in the 2nd innings.
