Multan and Faisalabad are placed in division one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 alongside some very competitive teams. Both the teams have been badly hurt because majority of their senior player are playing from their respective departments.
Before the 7th round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11, Multan had played 6 matches and lost all of them. The situation did not change in the 7th one either as Faisalabad defeated Multan by 5 wickets because of a captain’s knock by Test cricketer
Ijaz Ahmed Jnr.
Faisalabad won the toss on a green track of Bahawal Stadium, Bahawalpur and invited http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819 to bat first. In past, the Bahawalpur pitch was known to give a great deal of assistance to the spinners but this is not the case anymore as it has become a fast bowling
paradise.
Multan was bowled out for a mere 81 in its 1st innings. Middle-order batsman, Taimur Ahmed was the highest scorer for Multan with 27 runs. It was a team effort by the Faisalabad bowlers who complemented each other quite beautifully. Test cricket
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Nazir’s younger brother, Rauf Nazir took 4 wickets for Faisalabad by just giving away 23 runs. Zeeshan Butt took 3 wickets, whereas, seasoned campaigner, Ahmed Hayat picked up a couple of scalps for his team.
In reply, Faisalabad batted better on a track that was getting easier to bat on. Faisalabad managed to score 170 runs in 46.3 overs, although, at one stage, it was also in a huge trouble before Ahmed Hayat and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naved-Latif-c78900 rescued Faisalabad’s situation.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Hayat-c42319 remained the top-scorer for Faisalabad with a quick-fire 52 off only 65 balls in which he struck 6 fours and a couple of towering sixes.
Test discard fast bowler and the captain of Multan Abdur http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rauf-c84151 held all the burden of its team’s bowling and picked up 8 wickets after conceding 85 runs in his 23.3 overs. He bowled his heart out without getting too much support from the other end.
Because of Kashif Naved’s brilliant 97 off only 109 balls, Multan was able to put up a better fight in the 2nd innings and scored 214 runs. Kashif struck 15 fours in his knock but unfortunately was a victim of nervous 90’s. Opening batsman Zaka
ul Rasheed also scored a half-century.
Ahmed Hayat, Zeeshan Butt and Hassan Mahmood picked up 3 wickets each for Faisalabad in the 2nd innings.
Faisalabad was given a target of 131 runs to chase down in the last innings which they did for the loss of 5 wickets. At one stage, Faisalabad was looking down the barrel at 10 runs for the loss of 3 top-order batsmen but Test cricketer and captain of Faisalabad
Ijaz Ahmed Jnr and Muhammad Salman showed their experience and built a 4th wicket partnership of 73 runs which proved to be the deciding factor between both the teams. Ijaz scored 56 off 66 balls with 7 fours and a six whereas wicket-keeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163
scored 36 with the help of 6 boundaries.
Mudassar Ali took 3 wickets for Multan and Abdur Rauf completed his 10-wicket haul for the match with 2 wickets in the 2nd innings.
It was a well-contested match but situation could have been a little different if Faisalabad had not won the toss on a green and juicy deck.
