Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11: Sui Gas crush WAPDA in 10th round
WAPDA defeated Sui Gas by an emphatic margin of 157 runs in the 10th round of Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 Division One. Sui Gas is a former champion of Pakistan’s elite first-class tournament but is reeling at number 8 in the current season with
only 18 points after 10 games. The main reason behind Sui Gas’ poor performance in the current season is that majority of its senior players have been busy with the national duties. On the other hand, WAPDA was leading the points table of Division One at the
half-way stage of the tournament but lost its way after a couple of defeats at the hands of HBL and PIA.
At the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, Sui Gas won the toss and elected to bowl first which is a usual trend in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. The decision turned out to be a good one on a bowling friendly pitch. WAPDA’s experienced batting line-up
was bowled out for only 216 runs in the 1st innings. Star of the show for WAPDA was the right handed middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohaib-Maqsood-c90627, who scored a brilliant 69 off just 99 balls with the help of 10 stunning boundaries. Ali Azmat ably supported
him with a cameo as he scored 38 runs with the help of 6 fours.
Fast bowler Asad Ali and leg spinner Yasir Shah picked up 4 wickets each for Sui Gas. Yasir Shah’s performance was quite heartening as he is considered to be the future of Pakistan’s spin bowling department.
In reply, Sui Gas was blown away by the experienced fast bowlers of WAPDA for only 141 runs in 46.2 overs. As a result, WAPDA took a 1st innings lead of 75 runs. The situation could have been worse for Sui Gas as they had lost 7 wickets with just
41 runs on the board before tail-ender Ali Raza scored a brilliant 54 to take the 1st innings score of Sui Gas to some sort of respectability.
Fast bowler Kashif Raza picked up a 5-wicket haul for WAPDA. Sarfaraz Ahmed picked up 4 wickets to help Kashif destroy Sui Gas’ young batting line-up.
In their 2nd innings, WAPDA batted well once again under trying circumstances and posted 257 runs on the board, thus taking an overall lead of 332 runs over Sui Gas. WAPDA was driven into a position of safety by Nawaz Sardar and Aamer Sajjad who
scored valiant half-centuries.
Upcoming fast bowler of Faisalabad region, Asad Ali picked up a 7-wicket haul for Sui Gas. Leg spinner Yasir Shah took a couple of wickets in the 2nd innings of WAPDA.

the help of 10 fours.
