Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241, Ali Naqvi help KRL beat State Bank by 9 wickets
Khan Research Laboratories defeated State Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by 9 wickets in a 7th round fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11, division two. This was probably the most important match of division two as both these teams are the strongest of
this division. Even after this defeat, State Bank is on top of the points table but KRL has definitely improved its chances to give State Bank a tough time in this division.
At the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-Research-Laboratories-c804 Ground, Rawalpindi, Muhammad Wasim won the toss for KRL and invited the visitors to bat first on a bowling paradise. State Bank struggled against a top quality bowling line-up and was all out for a mere 148 in only the 45th
over of the innings. The top-scorer for State Bank was the upcoming batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819, Ramiz Alam who scored 32.
Test cricket Yasir Arafat was responsible for the cheap score of State Bank as he grabbed yet another 5-wicket haul in his illustrious First-class career. Yasir took 5 wickets after giving away only 53 runs. Rahat Ali took 3 wickets and the lanky Muhammad
Irfan picked up 2 to support Yasir Arafat.
In reply, KRL also struggled in its 1st innings but because of a collective effort by its senior players, KRL was able to overcome the 1st innings score of State Bank. KRL scored 188 and with that took a 40 runs lead in the 1st
innings. KRL’s captain and Test cricketer, Muhammad Wasim was the top-scorer for the home side as he scored a precious 39. Ali Naqvi also scored 32.
Bilawal Bhatti took 5 wickets for State Bank and Muhammad Naved took 2 wickets, whereas, Muhammad Rameez, Nayar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbas-c41488 and Kashif Siddiq took a wicket each.
It was expected that the wicket would be much better to bat on once the teams start their 2nd innings but that was not the case as the fast bowlers were getting a lot of assistance from the wicket. State Bank displayed a worse batting performance
in the 2nd innings as it was bowled out for only 134 runs, less than the 1st innings score. Ramiz Alam was again the top-scorer for the visitors as he scored 34 this time round. Afsar Nawaz battled 104 balls for his 26.
This time, the wickets were shared by the KRL’s bowlers. Yasir Arafat and Muhammad http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-c64444 picked up 3 wickets each whereas, Rahat Ali and Bilal Asad took a couple of scalps each for KRL.
KRL was given a target of 98 runs to win in the last innings, which they achieved for the loss of only 1 wicket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ali-Naqvi-c998 and Saeed Anwar Jnr. played responsibly on a seaming track and built a solid opening partnership of 94 runs before Saeed Anwar Jnr.
was caught behind by the wicket-keeper Gulraiz Sadaf of the bowling of the part timer, Afsar Nawaz. Ali Naqvi remained unbeaten on 58 in which he struck 12 fours.
It was a low scoring encounter but an interesting one. It was a sort of a track which tests the technique of the batsmen and end of the day KRL proved to be a better team because its batting line-up was more experienced as compared to the State Bank batting
line-up.
