In a 9th round fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 division one, young Sialkot team impressed yet again by defeating Faisalabad by 9 wickets at its home territory. Although http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842’s team is quite inexperienced and young yet they are being
led well by Mansoor Amjad and in the current season.
At the Sports Stadium Sargodha, Faisalabad won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a brave decision in bowling friendly conditions but did not turn out to be a wise one as the whole Faisalabad side was bundled out for a mere 88 in just 30.1 overs.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Farrukh-Shahzad-c56856 remained the top-scorer for the home team with his gutsy 25 runs which included 5 splendid boundaries.
Fast bowler, Prince Abbas was the pick of the bowlers for Sialkot as he bowled unchanged from one end and took 6 wickets for 26 runs. It was a display of fast bowling which was definitely worth watching as he moved the ball both ways. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqas-Ahmed-c96195, who took
12 wickets in the previous match, took a couple of wickets in the 1st innings along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Malik-c64244 who also claimed a scalp.
In reply, Sialkot’s batsmen came up with a fighting effort and showed their guts by piling up 187 runs on the board in trying circumstances. However, one disappointing thing for Sialkot was that almost all the top order batsmen took starts but failed to
carry on. Muhammad Ayub who has been a prolific run-scorer for Sialkot in recent years, remained the top-scorer with 31 runs off 60 balls and struck 2 boundaries. Wicket-keeper Rizwan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sultan-c91758 also scored 30 runs for the visitors.
Left-arm spinner, Hassan Mahmood picked up 7 wickets in Sialkot’s 1st innings as he bowled with amazing control and variation. He bowled 25 overs and just gave away 51 runs in his brilliant spell of slow bowling. Aqeel Ahmed also took a couple
of wickets for Faisalabad.
In its 2nd innings, Faisalabad failed to come to terms with the seam bowling of Sialkot once again and were bowled out for only 132 runs in just 31.4 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asif-Hussain-c46474 was the top-scorer for Faisalabad with 49 runs which came off 61 balls with
8 fours. Hassan Mahmood also scored 45 runs with 8 boundaries.
Just like his partner in the 1st innings, Waqas Ahmed bowled unchanged in the 2nd innings of Faisalabad and grabbed 6 wickets after giving away 66 runs in his 16 overs. 1st innings hero, Prince Abbas took 2 wickets this time
around.
Sialkot was given a target of only 33 runs to win in the last innings of the match, which it achieved for the loss of just 1 wicket when opener Faisal Rasheed was dismissed by the seasoned fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Hayat-c42319. From then onwards, Jawad Ahmed and Majid
Jehangir made sure that the visitors do not face any more hiccups in the small run-chase. The latter remained not out on 21, whereas Jawad Ahmed scored 9 runs not out.
With this victory, Sialkot go 1 step ahead on the points table with 30 points, whereas Faisalabad is still on the 9th position in division one.
