Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division 2: State Bank and Karachi Whites Win Their 5th Round Matches
In a fifth round fixture at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 was up against Quetta, which is at the bottom of the points table. The result was as it was predicted
earlier.
Captain of State Bank, Kashif Siddiq won the toss and decided to bowl first on a seaming track. State Bank’s fast bowlers ran through the inexperienced batting line-up of Quetta. The Lahore born http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Naved-c77151 took 5 wickets as
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Quetta-c835 was bowled out for a mere 128. Ironically, fast bowler Arun Lal was the highest scorer for Quetta with 22 runs.
In reply, State Bank displayed a professional batting performance as they managed to score 237 runs on a wicket that had a lot of juice in it. Waseem http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-c78451 played a match-winning knock of 97. He was unfortunate not to complete
the hundred which he richly deserved. The importance of Naeem’s innings could be judged by the scorecard as that was the only half-century scored in this match. Muhammad Asim was the most successful bowler for Quetta as he took 3 wickets for 59 runs.
In their 2nd innings, Quetta was not even able to match its 1st
innings score and was all out for only 112 runs. Naved took 4 wickets once again for State Bank. State Bank only required 6 runs to win the match, which they did so without losing a wicket in its 2nd innings and won the match by 10 wickets.
At the Arbab Niaz Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peshawar-c832, the home team was facing PTV. Peshawar has not done well in the ongoing domestic season and was under a lot of pressure in the 5th round. Peshawar won the toss and decided to bowl
first but that did not prove to be a wise decision as PTV piled up 390 runs with left-handed opener Imran Ali scoring a ton and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasim-Murtaza-c98232 displayed his all-round skills by making a quick-fire
86 of only 75 balls. Test cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Riaz-Afridi-c84793 was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets.
Peshawar did not disappoint either in its 1st innings, but it could have been much worse without Sajjad Ahmed and Riaz Afridi scoring tons. Apart from the 2 centurions, no other batsmen crossed 30 in Peshawar’s 1st innings.
Left arm pacer Saad Altaf took 4 scalps for PTV.
PTV declared their 2nd innings at 271 for the loss of 7 wickets. Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raheel-Majeed-c83308 scored an entertaining 123 as PTV took a lead of 321 runs.
The match became very interesting as PTV was almost home but could not get the last wicket at the later stages of the match. Peshawar was able to draw the match because of a 10th wicket partnership. Peshawar captain
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Akbar-Badshah-c42517 was the highest scorer with 80. For PTV, Saad Altaf and Yasim Murtaza took 3 wickets each.
In Karachi, the stronger of the 2 Karachi teams, Karachi Whites was facing the weak Hyderabad team at the UBL Sports Complex. Hyderabad won the toss and elected to field first. This decision did not made a lot of sense as Karachi
Whites scored 369 runs in its 1st innings. Abdul Jabbar scored 114 runs but Wajhiuddin missed out on a century by only 4 runs. Test cricketer Asim http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 only managed to score 8 runs in the 1st innings. Fast bowler Sajjad Ali took a 5-wicket
haul for Hyderabad but not before conceding 122 runs.
Hyderabad got bowled out for only 65 runs in their 1st innings as only 2 batsmen managed to score double figures. And the one responsible for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 destruction was Test fast bowler Sohail Khan. He took 7 wickets
for only 27 runs in 14 overs.
Interestingly, Karachi Whites did not enforce the follow-on and decided to bat instead. Karachi Whites declared its innings at 139 for the loss of 3 wickets. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rameez-Aziz-c83818 scored 41 runs for Karachi Whites. Chasing 442 runs, Hyderabad
was bowled out for only 201 runs in the 4th innings of the match. Hanif-ur-Rehman remained the top-scorer with 41 runs. Off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Atif-Maqbool-c46639 took 5 wickets and Sohail Khan completed his 10-wicket haul with 4 scalps in the 2nd innings.
Karachi Whites won by 241 runs.
PCB has raised(?) the quality of first-class cricket in the country but it is about time that the PCB works on the quality of domestic cricket as well because some of the teams in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 are not even competitive
enough.
