Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) won the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division One against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited on Friday, December 23, 2011 at National Stadium, Karachi.
PIA’s victory became a reality only after a phenomenal performance from their players in the second innings, where not only did they improve their performance by miles, but kept things well in control to rattle ZTBL.
Their opponents, who had given a superb performance while batting first, were incinerated in their second round of batting; where the PIA bowlers tightened the screws around them right from the word go.
ZTBL's overnight batsmen Iftikhar Anjum and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rehan-Riaz-c84633 came out to bat for their side in a bid to enhance their lead, however, the exuberant performance by the PIA bowlers, restricted ZTBL batsmen, from posting a formidable tally in the second innings.
The two batsmen failed to accomplish their mission as PIA grabbed the much needed final wicket of ZTBL without allowing the side to add a run to their overnight score.
The demise of ZTBL gave PIA a target of 108 runs to win the match, and with almost two days of play left, PIA had a serious chance of defeating their opponents.
Openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Sajid-c70141 were up to speed as they batted superbly against the ZTBL bowlers, and restricted the fielding side from making inroads early in the day, to remove the sting from the bowlers, who were desperately seeking the fall of wickets.
The duo clobbered an opening stand of 48 runs, before Kamran Sajid lost his wicket after amassing 34 runs on the board off just 29 deliveries.
After the demise of the opener, it was then number-three batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sheharyar-Ghani-c89904, and Sabir who steered their side to victory by reaching the required target in 21.2 overs, as the two stayed unbeaten on 40 and 36 runs.
24-year-old pacer from PIA, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anwar-Ali-c45231 was named as the Player of the Match for taking eight wickets.
