Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Roundup
Division Two final affected by rain for second consecutive day
After a complete washout on the first day of the 2010-11 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division Two Final between State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-Research-Laboratories-c804 (KRL), play started on the second day at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Both teams have stood out in Division Two, where they were placed with some of the weaker teams of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s domestic cricket. KRL remained at the top of the points table with 51 points from nine matches, while SBP were in second place with 42 points from
nine games.
Play started after tea on day two at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and only 23 overs of play were possible. Former Test cricketer and the KRL Captain Mohammad Wasim won the toss and elected to bowl first in bowling friendly conditions. Apart from a green-top
wicket, one of the major reasons behind bowling first was KRL’s dependence on their fast bowlers - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241 and Mohammad Irfan.
State Bank scored 79 runs for the loss of their captain Kashif Siddiq before the close of play on day two. State Bank’s innings has been dependent on Shoaib Khan so far, who is not out on 63 runs off just 74 balls with the help of nine stunning boundaries.
Yasir Arafat picked up the only wicket to fall in the first innings so far.
It is a five-day match and the players will be hoping that the weather doesn't disrupt play over the next three days so there can be a clear winner in Division Two.
Multan look to get their first win of the season against Islamabad
In Division One of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11, Multan is up against Islamabad. Both teams have struggled this season, but Multan’s performances have been particularly bad, as they have lost all 10 of their matches.
Islamabad won the toss at the Multan Cricket Stadium and elected to field first. The decision turned out to be a very good one initially, as the home team was struggling at the score of 52 for five. However Kashif Naved and Imranullah Aslam took the home
team to the shores of safety, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imranullah-Aslam-c64264 showed his all-round
abilities as he scored 51 runs off as many balls, which included seven boundaries and a six.
Off-spinner Kamran Hussain took four wickets for the visitors, while Nasrullah Khan and Rauf Akbar claimed a couple of scalps each. However, the hero of the tenth round, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fakhar-Hussain-c56759 remained wicket-less. In reply, Islamabad had scored 30 runs for the
loss two important wickets, as Abdur http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rauf-c84151 picked up both the scalps to lead from the front.
The match is quite evenly poised at the moment and Multan’s young guns will be hoping that they can avoid defeat in this match to break their awful run of consecutive losses.
