Quaid-e-Azam Trophy - a review of 2nd round (part5)
Quetta versus Karachi Whites
The mighty Karachi Whites overpowered the depleted http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Quetta-c835 side in a one sided affair of cricket by an innings and 33 runs at National Stadium Karachi. The batsmen of the home team completely dominated the scene as they only batted once for their massive
first innings total of 520 runs.
Quetta misread the wicket and sent in an in-form and strong batting line-up of Karachi to bat first on a batting friendly track. The hosts knew a thing or two more about their home turf as they build a mountain of runs in their first outing.
Whites, in their hunt for runs, Asif Zakir and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wajihuddin-c95877 associated themselves in a 183-run partnership for the third wicket, after early hiccups. Asif was unlucky as he fell just 6 runs shot of his century. In the process, Wajihuddin scored 125 runs, which
remained the highest individual in the match.
Moreover, the wicket keeper batsman, Mohammad Hasan racked up a scintillating hundred to sail his team to a mammoth first innings total. Karachi declared their innings at 520/6.
For Quetta bowlers, it was always going to be a struggle on a pitch that offered a little assistance for the bowlers. Mohammad Tahir had better figures as compared to his fellow bowlers, taking 2/77.
Furthermore, the batsmen also failed to make an impact of substance on a batting paradise as they were up against a quality attack, comprising test bowlers, Sohail Khan and Mohammad Sami. Bismillah http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, the opening batsman for the visitors scored a resilient
half century.
The collapse came in the middle order as three Quetta wickets fell from a score-line of 119/2 to 119/5. The sixth wicket stand of 105 runs between Taimur Khan and Arun Lal provided some sort of stability to the total as each of them scored substantial fifties.
Although their fight back wasn’t enough as there was no other warrior. As a result, they crumbled for a modest total of 284 runs.
For Karachi, Sohail and Sami started off well with the ball as both of them struck early with the new ball. The tourist’s middle order was scoring steadily; the wickets were hard to come by. Against all the odds, it was the newly tagged spin master, Atif
Maqbool, who came in like a brisk wind and went like a storm of destruction.
In doing so, the off spin bowler wreaked havoc for the opposition batsmen as he went on to take six wickets at a cost of 103 runs in a marathon spell of 32 overs on a flat pitch. He gave flight and real tweak to the ball and pitched it in the right areas
to destroy the opponents. The patience was the key and it proved in the end.
Quetta was following on, trailing by 236 runs. This time around, everyone expected a better show form them with the bat, but it wasn’t to be as they failed again and only managed 203 runs to register an embarrassing defeat. Ata-ur-Rehman showed some resistance
as he racked up 79 runs.
For Whites, Sohail Khan started the proceeding with two early wickets and added one more after dismissing the key batsman, Sabir Hussain for an eight ball duck. Wajihuddin chipped in one wicket. The hero of the first innings again spun his team to mammoth
victory.
As expected, on a fourth day pitch, where some turn was on offering, Atif gained complete advantage as he devastated six more Quetta batsmen to make it a dozen of wickets, scalping a massive tally of 6/73. In all, he gathered a career best of 12/176.
