Quaid-e-Azam Trophy - a recap of the 7th round (Part 3)
Sialkot defeated the Karachi Blues by nine wickets in a one sided contest at the National Stadium, Karachi. As a result, the visitors picked up nine points and moved up on the charts table. Sialkot completely dominated the match
as they imposed a follow-on on the Blues.
Sialkot had to chase a modest total of 153 runs in around half a day. They did it and completed the target in style as they only lost one wicket in the proceedings.
The Karachi Blues won the toss and elected to field first on a wicket that was offering a fair bit of assistance to the seam bowlers.  As a result, the start was a poor one for the visitors as they lost their first four wickets
for a bleak 48 runs.
Mohammad Ayub and Mansoor Amjad led Sialkot’s revival with a remarkable 289-run partnership for the fifth wicket. In doing so, they steered their team to a massive 379-run first innings total, despite early hiccups.
Mohammad Ayub played superbly for his team, hammering his 12th first-class century in order to rescue his team from an early debacle. The right-hand batsman displayed his full array of strokes with great technique and
composure.
Mansoor Amjad, the Captain of Sialkot led by example as he brought his team out of the red with his breathtaking knock of 157 runs. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 innings stuttered in the late part as the last four wickets fell in the space of just
13 runs. However, the visitors declared their innings on a mammoth first innings total of 379/9.
Apart from the opening spell, it was hard work for the Karachi bowlers. Nevertheless, Akbar-ur-Rehman was the pick of the bowlers as he registered decent figures of 3/43 in the first innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Rehman-c47132 provided him with valuable
support, taking 3/80 in competent spell of seam bowling.
The home team had no clue about the opposition bowling line-up as they only managed a poor score of 160 runs in their first outing. The wickets fell at regular intervals as the visiting bowlers devastated the opposition.  Rameez
Raja was the only batsman to make an impact with a 37-run innings. Apart from him, every other player failed to make an impression.
For the visitors, Imran Malik was the star performer with red cherry as he displayed a brilliant spell of fast-medium bowling. His persistent seam bowling earned him healthy dividends. Resultantly, the right-arm quick bowler registered
significant figures of 6/38 in 20 incisive overs. Adding to Karachi worries, Nabeel Malik also chipped in with two wickets to restrict the opposition to a poor total.
Following on by 119 runs, the home responded in a better way as they racked up a fighting 371-run total to give their team a chance for an unlikely victory. Rameez Raja and Murtaza Majeed added 119 runs for the second wicket in
order to counterattack the opposition. Raja sparkled with his brilliant 105-run innings to push Karachi into the lead, whereas, Majeed resiliently struck 79 to play the sheet anchors role.
It was a contributing effort by the Sialkot bowlers as almost everyone chipped in with valuable wickets. Nabeel Malik was the top-wicket taker as he sent four opposition batsmen to the pavilion. Prince Abbas and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Malik-c64244 bowled
brilliantly in the later part of the innings and in doing so, they gathered 5 wickets between them to empower a late order collapse as the Blues lost their last five wickets for 77 runs.
A modest 153-run target was a walk in the park for the strong batting line-up of Sialkot. Mohammad Ayub and Mansoor Amjad made sure that their team did not repeat their first innings performance. Concurrently, Ayub remained unbeaten
for his 84-run display, while Amjad (43) fell to Saeed bin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Majid-Jahangir-c1878 with his unbeaten 25-run show, alongside Ayub, guided Sialkot to a convincing victory.
