Quaid-e-Azam trophy final will be played under lights - PCB
For the first time in history of Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to arrange a first-class match under lights as the final of the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam trophy will be held partially in daylight and then under artificial
lights. The match will hosted by national stadium Karachi on 13 January 2011.
The head of the domestic cricket operations in the PCB, Mr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sultan-Rana-c91768 said that this would be an experimental game and was hopeful that it would a turn out to be a start of a new domestic era.
"We hope this experiment is the start of a new exciting era for domestic cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, but we have to wait and see how it goes," said Rana.
Habib Bank team has already qualified for the tournament’s final while the second finalist will be decided after the match between Rawalpindi and PIA.
The board is still negotiating over the use of a colored cricket ball - pink or yellow - for the day and night Quaid-e-Azam trophy final. Rana told the media reporters that the color of the ball would be decided keeping the visibility factor
in mind as the final would be shown live on.
"We have to see the visibility factor of both the colored balls and also keep in mind the comfort of the competing teams because this is a major final," he said.
Rana further added that the basic objective of having the Quaid-e-Azam trophy final under lights was to make attract the crowds into the stadium by making the match more interesting.
"We get crowds for the T20 and even 50-over matches in domestic cricket but we need similar support for first class matches so we are going for a change," he said.
This would not be the ever first case of day and light first class cricket match in the cricket world as this has been experimented by England and Wales Cricket Board.
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) had earlier experimented the concept of a day and night first class match with a pink cricket ball when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 and MCC played a four-day match under lights in Abu Dhabi last year.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board has announced that it is willing to use pink ball in their first class regional competition. This was announced by WICB in December last year.
The final will be played from 2.00 PM in the afternoon to 9.00 PM in the night on 13 January.
