Hi. I'm thinking of moving to PR and am looking for an area to

live. It would be for me and my 14 year old daughter. Love Old

San Juan but private school I checked were $1000.00 a month ! Can't afford that much. Does anyone know of any other quaint cities close to the beach with reasonable private

school for my daughter ? Would love to live in a walkable

communtiy.

Thanks

  1. Hi. You may try Rincon.  Cool town right on the beach, lots of ex-pats, so i would think there's a school there for their kids.   There are several English language schools troughout the island though. Colegio San Ignacio is one of them, and Bayamon Military Academy is another one i know of.

  2. Most private schools in PR are expensive, regardless of the city or town. I love Cabo Rojo, is a beach (coastal) town where you can rent a house or buy a condo. Cabo Rojo is east of San Juan and right by the beach, it has a homey feeling. Ponce is a bigger city, and so is Mayaguez, but again, the private schools are not going to be cheap. Have you thought of home schooling?

My cousin owns a private school in PR and the only water you'll ever see there is rain water, yet their fees are $1, 250.00 a month. So I'm surprised that a school in San Juan only charges 1G.

Perhaps YOU can teach English on the side as a private tutor and earn extra money to pay for your daughters' education, every little bit helps. Good luck and happy hunting.

  3. That is crazy.  My daughter was at a private school in Arecibo and I pay 260 a month.  The clases where in spanish but there is private schools in Arecibo that the clases are in English not sure about the cost.  Not too much of a colonial town but is on the north and has very nice laid back beach feeling.  I also know there are some in Hatillo.  So you might whant to research some other places that maybe cheaper.

  4. Almost any town in Puerto Rico is within 30 minutes of a beach. Even the most inland central towns are 45 mins at most from the beach.  Ponce is a city in the South of PR. It is still a city, but smaller than San Juan & has a quaint colonial, almost European feel to it. You should look into it. Ponce has a beach & there are small islands located offshore. Anyway here are some photos of Ponce:

  5. You can try Isla Verde, Puerto Rico and Colegio La piedad is not that expensive and is a good school. Condado is a walkable community but the schools over there are among the most expensive. Robinson School and St. John, bothe are american schools(English First)
