Quaint places within an hour or two of Calais?

I'm off on the motorbike to France on Saturday. Only an overnight trip so I don't want to go too far. Any of you know some nice little coastal places to visit? I was going to go to Le Touquet but it sounds a bit too modern.

  1. You could try Gravelines, its a nice little town with a fort. I have had some nice food there to.

  2. Boulogne sur Mer is lovely, and is't got a nice cathedral to see, only about a half an hour from Calais.

Lille would be your other option, good shopping center

  3. Try the small fishing village of Wissant it is not far from Calais you can see it here http://www.a-taste-of-france.com/wissant...

  4. dunkerque, see the industry, france at its best

  5. le touquet is lovely, and it's not too modern. wissant is mentioned above, but in my opinion better still is to go past wissant to wimereux and then boulogne.

wimereux has a lovely sea front, and a very french shopping street. and a nice little hotel we've stayed at twice, called le speranza

boulogne has lots - the medieaval town at the top of the hill is very quaint, there's a good market (mostly fruit, veg, cheese etc.) on a saturday morning. shops, restaurants and a french seaside feel

  6. I liked Vieux-Lille (the old section of Lille) when I went there about a decade ago.

  7. I would thoroughly recommend the town of Honfleur http://en.ot-honfleur.fr/Welcome-in-Honf... - its a pcituresque harbour town. Its probably around 150 miles from Calais along the coastal road

Others options nearby are the towns of Deauville - http://www.deauville.org/en/ or Fecamp - http://www.fecamptourisme.com/index.php or Dieppe - http://www.dieppetourisme.com/index.php
