I posted a question yesterday about my new quaker parrot. right now, he is not talking (or chirping...any noise at all). we have only had him since Sunday. What can i do to make my bird like me. he is very skiddish when either myself or my boyfriend try to get him out of the cage. i really would like the bird to like us. i know it takes times, because when we got him he was in a cage with another bird and now he is alone. what can i do to make him comfortable with me?

  1. okay first off it is too soon to be handling him . give him some time to get used to your voice and for right now just replace water and food . dont try to take him out of the cage or anything right now . Yes I have a 5 yr old quaker and it took almost a month for him to get used to us . give him or her all the time it needs to get accustomed to you . good luck .

  2. Quaker parrots are hard to please, one-person parrots. Most likely what will happen is that he will bond with one person (maybe 2 if you're lucky) and bite everyone else.

He doesn't know you yet, and he is afraid of you. The more time you spend with him the quicker he will develop a bond to you and the quicker you will start having fun with him. Make sure that all your experiences with him are positive and don't give him any reason to fear you.

It will take time but you'll get there.
