  1. No, they cannot live in the same cage, and no they cannot mate. African Greys in general, are not good with kids, unless you get one from a breeder as soon as it is weaned. Itr's even better that you get one you can visit with while it is being weaned. African Greys tend to be feather pluckers if not cared for properly. So, if you are in school most of the day and like to hang out with friends, then it is not a good idea to get a Grey. They live for a very long time, require weekly cage cleaning, food and water changed daily, fresh veggies, toys replacec constantly, and you need to have an Avian Vet ready b/c normal vets don't normally treat birds (most don't). Plus, think to the future, you will be in high school before long, then college, will you have the appropriate time for it? There are so many Greys in bird rescues because of lack of time, severe feather plucking, biting issues, or are not good with kids. Greys are great birds with the right owner, but I strongly advise against a 12 year old getting one and being its care taker. For your age, I would recommend the Quaker. Please do a lot of research, the care of birds is so much different than a dog or a cat. You cannot burn candles in the room where they are kept, there is a whole list of household items to avoid. Plus, they cannot have avacado, chocolate, caffeine, onion, etc., it will kill them. Please only get one bird and learn how to care for it and learn all about birds before you even consider getting a second bird.

  2. What do you know about taking care of a 3 year old? That is what parrots are like.

No you cant keep them in the same cage! No they cant breed!

Please do your research, both are extremely smart birds, that can be loud, live a very long time (where are you going to be in 70 years?), and need large cages and lots of out time.

They are also very expensive, you have to find an avian certified vet, along with a respectable african grey breeder and a quaker breeder.

Between the 2 very large cages, specialized diets (they need more than just seeds) and tons of toys and 2 large playstands.

Please read about african greys here: http://www.greyforums.net/

Also check out birdboard.com they have a lot of good info

  3. NO.  The Grey will chew the Quaker up and spit him out.  No they will not mate together.  They are going to need their own cage.  You should not get a Grey unless you have done extensive research on them.  They can be extremely temperamental.  I work with these birds (and many other kinds) every day, and can tell you for a fact, positively that they can not be kept in the same cage.  The Grey will fight and hurt the Quaker just for amusement.  Please read my profile..

  4. Quakers and African Greys are way too different to be able to mate with one another--can you imagine a horse and rhino mating?--and they certainly shouldn't be placed in the same cage. Greys are much larger than quakers and a grey could badly injure a quaker in a disagreement--once they have been properly introduced it may be possible for them to play together outside their cages, but they should never be housed together. Buy two of the same species, or buy both but keep them separate.

  5. Absolutely NOT! A quaker is about 1/4th the size as a CAG. It would be VERY dangerous. They certainly could not mate. Only the same species can. You could mate a Jenday Conure to a Sun Conure but NOT cross species lines. (Why would you want to anyway?) If I were you I would get a quaker, an African Grey is a BIG bird and should only be owned by a well experienced person. You can get 2 Quakers and they can mate, but you MUST have them DNA'd to know the s*x. There is NO way to visually s*x that species.

  6. They might get along if the cage is big enough, but introduce carefully. They can't interbreed. To find out if animals can interbreed you need to look at their scientific name. If they are the same on the genus level, then they can usually interbreed. These birds are not the same genus.
