Qualification process for the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship ends
The wait is finally over and sixteen of the best junior women’s volley ball teams get confirmation to represent their respective countries at the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship. The elite women’s international competition of Under-20 teams will
kick off on July 22. The tournament will run all the way through to July 31.
The qualification process took place around the world as aspiring teams from all parts of the globe participated in the qualification tournaments arranged by their relevant national federations. Teams from Asia, Africa, NORCECA and South America completed
their qualification phase earlier, while the European Qualification Tournament just rounded off this past Sunday, May 22. A total of 18 teams survived until the final round of the European Qualification Tournament. They competed for five empty slots, while
playing in four different pools.
Italy was already confirmed to play at the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship as they had captured the gold medal at the 2010 CEV Junior World Championship. Following in the footsteps of the Italian squad, girls from Serbia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, and
Belgium also qualified for the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship. Serbia and Poland did very well in Pool ‘A’ matches of the Qualification Tournament. They were joined by teams from Greece, Montenegro and Portugal. Each team played four matches in accordance
with the set formula of the game. Polish girls finished with the final score of 4-0 and booked a slot in the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship. Likewise, Serbian girls lost one match but managed to catch a spot in the sixteen-team grid of Junior World Championship.
Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia and Romania played under the tag of Pool B. The fans got to witness some hot action on the courts. However, success graced only Belgium, while the rest of three could not make it to the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship.
Pool C matches were hosted in the Russian capital Moscow. Teams from Germany, Israel, Finland and Denmark travelled to the former Soviet state to participate. The home squad took full advantage of the familiar conditions and didn’t allow anyone to stand
in their way. Russia maintained complete dominance in Pool C and finished in the top slot.
Slovakia exhibited a great performance in Pool D and filled the last empty slot in the roster of 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship. Turkey, France and Bulgaria were also on board but remained unsuccessful.
The 2011 FIVB Women's Junior World League will be hosted by Peru in the month of July. The roster of the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship will feature the following teams:
