Qualified Teacher Considering Returning To Job After 10 Year Gap In Industry.?

Question

I had approx 15 Years experience both in U.K. and abroad mainly in the top Primary sector before pursuing other options.

Thought of applying for Class assist/mentor type roles initially.

Any ideas or advice gratefully received.

I would definitely suggest doing a stint as a TA. Schools (and kids and families and society) have changed a lot over the last ten tears, as have the demands of the national curriculum. Would be a good idea to find out if it still appears before committing yourselg. Good luck,

Field abit crowded at the moment; pay has become so high and work loading so low, with time out for prep and marking and several assistants etc per class, that the work load has dropped by the same 75% as the pay has increased.

If you can get in, do it. Everyone paints such a bad picture because they can't get in. Cool job, very rewarding, powerful, well paid and more than half the year off!

Go for it (but be warned, secretly everyone else is too)! If you already had such a great job........would you want it threatened?

Although I am only 14 years old, I would just like to tell you that most public schools are full of incredibly hard to control pupils. I agree with the previous answer that a lot is bound to have changed over the last 10 years and I, personally have to put up with so much dissruption and such as result of this.

Don't charge straight back in untill you understand how things are right now and know you can cope. I think it would be a rather nasty shock to approach some of the youth nowdays.

Another thing, if you ever decide to become a supply teacher I will warn you in saying that they get it the worst!

Have you heard about the return to teaching course?  I know a few teachers who have done it, and they say it was really worth it.
