Sixteen best-of-nine matches were played on the day. Most of the matches played were cagey and one-sided, but for a few exceptions.
In round one, all four Chinese players had made it. But three of them, Zhang Anda, Xiao Guodong, and Liu Chuang, lost their battles in the second round playing against Alfie Burden (5-1), Joe Jogia (5-2) and Jimmy White (5-3) respectively.
However, Liu Song had a pretty comfortable 5-0 win over Adrian Gunnell.
The best match played in the round was in the morning session between Kurt Maflin and Jack Lisowski. It was an evenly-matched, fully stretched battle between both the players that was eventually won by Maflin. There have been seven centuries produced in
Round 2 out of which four were seen during the Lisowski-Maflin match, including the highest-break of the tournament so far – Maflin’s break of 140.
The other important match was in the evening where the legendary Jimmy White waited to play local boy Liu Chuang. White couldn’t play his best and a time came when he was trailing Chuang 3-2. However, he bounced back and took control of the game, winning
the next two frames in succession to stand victorious with a 5-3 scorecard.
The second and third highest breaks of 140 and 138 were produced by Jimmy Robertson and Stuart Pettman, but both of them succumbed to their opponents. However, David Gilbert, who also contributed a century break of 101, won five-frames-to-nil against Ian
Mcculloch.
