Qualifying Round 2 Results: World Snooker Championship 2011
The Qualifying Round 2 of the 2011 World Snooker Championship held at the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield has been completed.
Like round 1, sixteen matches of best-of-nineteen were played in the round 2. It was a well fought round in which everything went routine with a few exceptions.
The most awaited match of the round 2 was of the Whirlwind, Jimmy White, who fell short to the Chinese, Liu Chuang. The six-time world championship finalist and people’s champion, Jimmy White, lost his battle by a frame score of 10-9 as he could not register
himself in the deciding frame and will not be playing at the Crucible Theatre this year.
Other cut-throat competitions were seen between Jimmy Robertson & Xiao Guodong and Adrian Gunnell & Liu Song in which Robertson and Song have progressed successfully.
Thai-Poon, James Wattana, who holds the highest break of 141, has again whitewashed his opponent, Andy Hicks, by a frame score of 10-2. Wattana’s match was also the quickest of all matches played in the round 2.
The 22-year-old, Sam Baird, has beaten Alfred Burden by a frame score of 10-7. The teenager, who turned professional in 2009 and is playing for the first time in the qualifiers of the World Snooker Championship, has become one of the most dominant players
in the qualifiers.
The teenager, Baird, started from the very first stage of the qualifiers and has beaten the likes of Colin Mitchell, Neal Selman, Reanne Evans, T’.T’ Boon, and Alfred Burden. He is now only two more rounds away to be in the last 16 with Mike Dunn and Mark
King standing in his way.
