  1. Its pure garbage.  One bag I read didnt have any MEAT in it!  The closest thing it had was "animal fat".  It also had alot of sugars in it.. why does dog food need sugar?  The veggies are among some of the last ingredients on the list, meaning.. there really isnt much veggies in there (not that dogs really get much nutrtion from veggies anyways)..  it also had food coloring.

Its probably worse than Ol' Roy.. which is also garbage.

  2. Very low.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, I give Beneful a big fat ZERO.

There's no way I'd feed it to my dog. I won't even buy it to donate to the animal shelter!

Here's reviews of the different Beneful foods:

    .

  3. No it is not...no grocery store brand is a good dog food they are full if fillers.  Get a premium or super premium brand available at pet stores or through special order

  4. YUCK!

my vets told me it was a contributing factor to my dogs diabetes.

she already had the propensity for diabetes and any food with wheat would have triggered it.

real nutrition here from now on.

    no wheat, corn or soy.

go to a pet supply store and compare ingredients and nutrional value.

    i feed CANIDAE to 14.

  5. Beneful Contains Sorbitol - an alcohol sugar known to cause GI problems such as diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain. - FDA regulations require a small subset of sorbitol-containing products to bear a label alerting consumers about the potential for gastrointestinal problems. Why do you think it's healthy to feed this to your dog every day?

It also contains menadione (synthetic Vitamin K) Large doses of which have been reported to cause hemolytic anemia, liver damage, and neonatal death. Also, menadione supplements have been BANNED by the FDA because of the toxicity!

Not to mention the Artificial Colourings. Small amounts of carcinogens contaminate Yellow 6 - there was a study that linked it to adrenal gland and kidney tumors. The FDA concluded that this doesn't pose a SIGNIFICANT risk to humans.

Also want to point out that studies in human children have shown that eliminating artificial colours, perservatives and cutting back on sugar DECREASES behavioral problems. Many schools for troubled youth have chnaged the cafeteria menu and have seen a positive result.

  6. I used to think it was good, too, but apparently its not.  Good dog food is supposed to have at least two meat sources in the first five ingredients, and should not have any corn in it.  Barley and oats should be in there too.

  7. Not at /all/. Beneful is an extremely low quality dog food.

Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn, by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of nasty stuff. A lot of pet food companies are perfectly happy to dump cheap leftovers in. Will it kill your dog? No, it has to be nutritionally complete and safe to even be marketed. Is it healthy? Not by a long shot.

Corn is a low quality ingredient you never want to see in your pet food. Corn and low quality grains are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to food allergies in our pets.

Thankfully, there are some excellent dog foods being made these days that include organic, human grade ingredients rather than trash not fit for human consumption.

Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Pedigree, Kibbles n' Bits, Beneful, Ol'Roy.

Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae All Life Stages, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature's Variety Prairie, Nature's Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix.

Although the high quality foods are more expensive, you're getting what you're paying for. Less filler material means more concentrated nutrients... this means you typically need to feed far less of the high quality food than you would of the low quality one. Which also means less p**p!

A great option is to go with an entirely grainless diet. Many of the high quality foods now put out grainless formulas. Some good grainless diets include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature's Variety Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Merrick Before Grain, Canidae Grain Free All Life Stages, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now! and Sold Gold Barking At The Moon, Taste of the Wild.

Some pretty decent foods can even be found in common pet stores. Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo products (such as the excellent grain free diet Blue Wilderness). Petco carries Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Eagle Pack Holistic, Blue Buffalo, Castor & Pollux Organix, Pinnacle, and Halo. If you can't find a food, most of the high quality food brands have websites with store locators on them.

Remember that foods should be switched gradually, especially when switching to a higher quality one, so as not to upset tummies.

Another option for feeding dogs is to feed raw. This is something that should be thoroughly researched before being attempted:

  8. beniful is pure trash! i would never feed my dog it !

the two most reccomended dog foods by veterinarians are:

    iams

    eukinuba

those are the only two brand considered health to feed to dogs by vets

you can also buy things to make therm a little more exciting like:

    iams savory sauce

    purina carvers

    or a normal dog biscut

also when you buy you dog treats make sure there not high in sugar thoose are extremly unhealthy for dogs and can cause then to become obeiase
