Quantum Racing finishes first on third day of Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy TP52 series: Sailing News
The newly launched green machine, Quantum Racing, finished first in the TP52 series fleet on the third day of Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy in Portugal. The Ed Baird-skippered Quantum Racing has extended its run to three consecutive victories from six
races.
In the Soto 40 series, the Jose Maria Torcida skippered Iberdrola Team took two second places despite the robust conditions at the shore to ensure their consistent lead in the points table.
The winds were blowing at 22 knots, which increased to 28 in the second race, made the conditions difficult for the sailors to cope with the consistency. The Iberdrola compromised their position as they took a lobster pot in the first race and struggled
to get free.
Despite a couple of incidents, the third day overall was a successful and memorable for racing that added to the Cascais’ reputation.
Quantum Racing is in overall lead in TP52 series and their confidence is boosting up with each day of the race in the capital of Portugal.
The tactician of the Quantum Racing, Adrian Stead, stated after the race, “Today we get our best start yet this afternoon, we sailed our best downwind and we sailed our best upwind. We are pretty happy with where we are. We look back at where we were
last Wednesday and I can see a big step forward, just confidence and time in the boat and my communication with Ed. I feel very confident with what I have seen today, there are still gains to be made with each race we do.”
The German Container, second placed, have gained their consistency level again after today’s race as the team has got a bunch of experienced crew members with rock solid passion and have the capability of handling the boat in worse conditions.
The overall result at the end of the third day at Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy is as follows.
