Quantum Racing navigator Juan Vila hoping for better racing ahead: 2012 52 Super Series
After finishing on lower podium places on the first day of the 2012 52 Super Series, the American sailing team of Quantum Racing placed themselves on the third spot in the overall standings. The second day proceedings brought some hope for the team as they
were able to hit the higher positions.
The Quantum Racing team, comprising of skipper Ed Baird, Warwick Fleury, trimmer Lorenzo Mazza and navigator Juan Vila, showed great determination on the second day and clinched a couple of higher finishes. During their second day campaign, the team hit
a bullet in the first race and a second finish in the second scheduled race of the day.
However, despite their best performance in the second day proceedings, they are still on third podium place but if they continue the same performance in the coming days, they will surely challenge the current regatta leaders, Sweden’s Ran and Italy’s Audi
Azzurra Sailing Team.
Speaking to the local reporters after the second day racing, Quantum Racing navigator, Vila said that the second day went better that the first for them as they had two good starts on the line and went the way they wanted and that helps. First race worked
out well for them while in the second race they went round the top mark in first place, but Rán did a good job on the first run.
The Spanish sailor added that the racing on Day 2 was not much different from Day 1 to be honest. But that metre extra on the beat makes the difference. That was getting out of the starts and doing the first upwinds well. He further said that the fleet is
very amazing. It is really, really great with these boats, it comes down to a few mistakes but doing a few things well makes a difference.
Overall standings at the end of Day 2:
1. Rán (SWE) 2, 2, 1, 3, 1 = 9 Points
2. Audi Azzurra Sailing Team (ITA), 1, 1, 2, 2, 3 = 9 Points
