Quantum Racing skipper Ed Baird disappointed with team’s performance: Day 2 - 2011 Audi TP52 Worlds
America’s Quantum Racing occupied second spot on the first day of TP52 Worlds behind Gladiator, but they slipped down to number three position on Day 2. One of the reasons of their downfall was the absence of a breeze on Costa Smeralda waters. Skipper, Ed
Baird, is disappointed with team’s performance the on second day as they finished third at the end.
Only one race could be held on second day of 2011 Audi TP52 World Championship on Sardinia’s Porto Cervo because of lighter winds. There was no breeze in the morning so the participants had to wait for the winds to fill in until the afternoon.
Ed Baird explained the situation and said, “As always sea breezes which build late in the day can build and be beautiful or they can build and then start to get crazy, and this one was a little shiftier than expected and full of pot holes. It was a pretty
hard track to pick your way around. We did a reasonable job up the first leg and then it got a lot harder after that.”
Quantum Racing’s Baird felt disappointed that they could not perform up to standards despite being the overall champions of the 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit. However, he still hopes that they will be able to cope with the situation in the upcoming races.
While speaking to local media at the end of Day 2, Baird said, “We are disappointed that we were up in the 1-2-3 at the windward mark first time up but then faded after that and you don’t like to drop places after the first mark, as in any other sport. If
they do two races tomorrow, windward-leeward and the coastal then that is a lot of points, but every day is a big day. But today it was a little frustrating not to end up with better than we did.”
The overall podium standings at the end of Day 2 are given below:
1. Paramount Park Murcia (ESP) 4, 2, 1 = 7 points
2. Gladiator (GBR) 3, 1, 4 = 8 points
3. Quantum Racing (USA) 1, 3, 5 = 9 points
4. Container (GER) 2, 7, 3 = 12 points
5. RÁN (SWE) 6, 5, 2 = 13 points
6. Audi Azzurra Sailing Team (IT) 5, 4, 7 = 16 point
7. Audi ALL4ONE (GER) 7, 6, 6 = 19 points
