Quantum Racing skipper Ed Baird happy with 2012 52 Super Series victory – Sailing News
After putting up a tremendous sailing show on the Barcelona waters, America’s Quantum Racing was able to clinch the 2012 52 Super Series title with 14 points. The American team skippered by Ed Baird showed great determination from the beginning of the regatta
and despite a slow start they managed to make it up to the expectations.
At the end of Day 1 proceedings, the US team was trailing on third podium as they clinched three third podium places in the first three races. However, after that they bounced back impressively with s couple of bullets on the second day but still retained
the third spot.
A superb performance in the third day races brought them on top of the fleet standings as they hit two bullets to compile 14 points. The Italian team, Audi Azzurra Sailing Team, also earned 14 points but due to their lower finishes on the third day, they
were placed on the second podium.
The fleet was expecting classy sailing competitions on the final day of the regatta but unfortunately there was no breeze to sail under and the race committee decided to cancel the races and formulate the final results in the basis of third day leader-board.
Ed Baird was very happy with the team’s victory.
Speaking to the local media, Baird said, “It was really nice to do well. We dug ourselves a little hole on the first day and it is nice to have come back from that and get back in the front. Obviously the competition is amazingly close, and you have to watch
everything that you do, do it very well. And so you look forwards to the next event which is not too far away.”
