  1. I found this. Hope it helps:

(In 1996, Evening Snow became the first horse of any breed to break the 21-second barrier for 440 yards. He covered the

    distance in :20.94.)

The most famous American Quarter Horse race is the $2

million All American Futurity (G1), run at Ruidoso Downs in

    New Mexico.

    Check these out too:

  2. As the second person to answer your question stated.  Quarter horses don't run miles they run 1/4 miles.  So comparing a quarter horse to a TB horse is not a equal comparison really, unless you break down the racetrack in quarter miles.  checkout times at the quarter pole to determine speed.  Horse speed is measured in miles per second. Not miles per hour.  A TB can run a quarter mile in approx. .375 seconds.

  3. per the official AQHA records the single fastest time for a quarter mile, which is the same for aqha, t-breds, or the real American equine athlete, the standard-bred it is still and always will be 2 furlong of 660 feet equal 1 quarter mile, or 1320 feet.

the fastest ever aqha race is by NO SECRET HERE who completed the race in 20.886 in 2006, that time over distance is 39 875 mph.

aqha, which i think stands for alpo quality hangin around (that's a joke, morons ) can reach 55 to 60 mph, in a truck and trailer, or their owner dreams, not in the real world.

And hey in case you are wondering or if some one mistakenly try to tell you some thing WRONG like this is physics, no it is just simple MATH, the formula a or equation for speed calculation is always of three part Time (t) Distance (d) and Speed in mph (s)  and if you know any two you can ALWAYS find out the 3rd..

if you really want to know more about the true speed of our equine friends go find my very long answer with a speed calculator chart look for a question about race horse speed

  4. Usually only Quarter Horses race 1/4 mile races (hence the name). Quarter Horses have been clocked at 55 mph, while thoroughbreds have done 37.6 mph (Secrateriat).

  5. 1/4 horses are what most people own, they are bigger, and run faster in shorter distance races, but it takes a thoroughbred to run mile long or more races at a full out run.

Plus, you can't go by the previous persons answer, Secretariat's speed was for the entire race. I'm sure that many thoroughbred horses can run close to the speed of a quarterhorse, it's just that they too, would tire out soon running at full speed from the gun.
