Quarter-final round of Cincinnati Masters to begin on Friday – Tennis News

Competitive field at the Cincinnati Masters have eventually shrunk to just eight men now, aiming to have a title shot at the coveted ATP Masters Series event. The quarter-final round of the Western & Southern Open will start from
Friday afternoon, with the four winners entering the semis and a step closer to the title match.
Leading the field, the reigning world number one, Roger Federer, will take on the former American number one, Mardy Fish, for a berth in the semi-final. It is the first tournament for Federer after his heartbreaking loss in the
final of Olympic Games and he is looking forward to avenge his loss by taking on the Cincinnati Masters title. Talking about the match against Fish, the Swiss maestro said: “"He's always been a difficult player to play against for all players on tour, because
he has everything a player needs: he's got a great return; he's got a great serve; he can move forward, and now obviously he moves obviously much better than he has at the beginning of his career. That's nice to see."
Federer leads 7-1 against Fish in the head-to-head series, with two victories in the most recent encounters with the American.
The other Swiss professional, Stanislas Wawrinka, will also feature the quarter-final clash against the Canadian number one, Milos Raonic, later in the afternoon. The two youngsters will lock horns with one another for the first
time in their professional careers and will exhibit a real fierce battle to give a worth watching treat to the local crowd in Cincinnati.
The former US Open champion, Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, has also secured a quarter-final berth in the Western & Southern Open and will face the 38th ranked surprise candidate, Jeremy Chardy on Friday. The 25-year-old
French registered the biggest upset of the tournament by dumping the Olympic gold medal winner and the British number one, Andy Murray, in twin sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the third round to meet Del Potro. Chardy is no more treated as the underdog after his emphatic
victory over Murray and is expected to give a real tough time to the world number nine Del Potro in the upcoming match.
The fourth quarter-final match will take place between the likes of the world number two and the hot favourite, Novak Djokovic of Serbia and the Croatian number one, Marin Cilic. The tall Croat will try to break the six-match losing
streak against the Serbian juggernaut.
